When is Enough Enough?
They boys (Casey & Wade) flew back to South Dakota early this morning.
Is it wrong to say that we're happy to see them go??
No offense intended, it's just that we have had a race event 12 out of the last 13 nights. Rarely concluded by midnight. So we are a little tired. (It might be noted that the guys I work around are maybe half my age, and some certainly 1/3 my age.) Ouch. Ugh.
Our camping neighbor (Ron) just knocked on the door to tell us he is leaving, and thank us for doing a couple things for him. He travels in a big motorhome, and writes articles for Speedsport.com (formerly National Speed Sport News) as an independent contributor. Very nice guy. We first met him in Tucson a year ago. Will see him next week here, and again at Canyon Speedway (north Phoenix) on the 29th. Our neighbor on the other side is a "Champion BBQ" competitor, who has several state and national titles. While at this track he provides meals for the Ricky Thornton Jr. race team. And sometimes his neighbors. 😃🥣
Ricky has been driving this Late Model here, and they have put on some really good shows - clearly the fan-favorite car class at this track. You understand why after seeing a few of these races.
Lyndon Bolt was our pit neighbor at this track, and is a good friend of Casey's. He drives a Late Model car, also out of Rapid City, SD. Sunday night Jonathan Davenport won the Late Model Main event, taking home $35,000 for the effort. Obviously not a bad payday!
As for us, it's been hot and cold for a couple days. Saturday night we started in the 6th Heat race, in 4th position. Casey finished third, one spot short of a stamped ticket to the A-Main. So we start 3rd in our 24-car B-Main, which Casey wins going away! Casey and the car were top notch in that event!
In the A-Main we started 18th and finished with a disappointing (for Casey) 12th place finish. A pretty good effort, overall, I think.
Last night (Sunday) We moved up 2 spots in our Heat to finish 8th out of 11 cars. Started 12th in the B-Main, in a 22-car field, and quickly moved up to the 7th spot. But just didn't have the oomph to get up to 4th, where we needed to be to qualify for the A-Main. We're done. 😢
Today we head back to Ajo, leaving our trailer and the race rig parked at this Track. We'll be back here racing this Friday with the 410 Sprint cars, in our IMCA car this time.
Gone for some R&R. And laundry. A lot of laundry. 👚
D & L
And a much deserved R&R! Enjoy the warm weather. Thanks again, for the blog.
ReplyDeleteYeah, sorta reminds me of that Vegas non-alcoholic hangover feeling, with the alcohol. (If that makes any sense?)
