The Turtle is a little Wet.

Yep.  We moved this morning from Arizona Speedway southeast of Phoenix to the "Desert Tortoise Campground" at Lake Pleasant Regional Park just north of Phoenix (Peoria, actually).

It is a little damp, raining off and on.  But it's a very nice camp on a big lake, with fun things like electricity and water, etc.

It's raining, and I am bored.  So I thought I would do a random post.  Your Loss.  Sorry!

We really feel like we're on vacation at the moment.  No obligation to head for the pits.  Not on standby for anything.  Nice feeling.

A year into this and we are still LOVIN' It!!  It is so much fun to work with the Skyberg Race team, and to travel around the country to make that happen.  We see a lot of stuff we otherwise would never have seen, both inside and away from race tracks.  The folks we meet are exceptional, and with a common interest it is very easy to visit with them.  Some are connected with teams in one way or another, others just follow racing and we meet them in the stands or camping.  We have met several of those at multiple tracks.

On a typical day (if there is such a thing) we head for the pits before mid-day to see what activity exists.  Lorna has fixed our breakfast early, but these guys might be just stirring.  By early afternoon work begins on the car(s).  The pace of work is set by how much time there is before racing starts, and how much TLC the car needs.  Tire prep, body work, repairs, fuel, chassis adjustments, shock (absorber) selection, and other set-up changes gotta get done during that time.

And if you're lucky, maybe a chance to wash the car.

Once a show begins, activity in the pits is hectic to say the least.  Gotta be careful as you move around in there, also wary of those who move around you.  Like the other day I was working near the right side of our car and this young guy with a red car comes zipping around the corner.  Caught a glimpse of him just as he got near to me.  Was scary for a minute, but no harm was done.

And then he was gone as quick as he had come.

As I've said recently, Wade and I rarely see races other than those in which we run.  Always something to be done, and Casey frequently makes last minute decisions about set-up based on current track conditions.  Gotta be there when that happens.

Shows typically end around midnight, a couple of the Arizona shows with late afternoon start times were done by 8:30 or so.  Some midwest shows will run past 2:00 a.m.  When it's over you load up the elephants, put away the gear, and start thinking about the next race, wherever that is.

Once the pits are cleared at the end of a show, the cleanup crews move in.      And it's a bit odd, but trash is a thing at some places, and not nearly so bad at others.

But ALWAYS there are tires.  And bent bumpers and wheels, and various other useless parts.  Amazing how many tires are used up in just a few days.

Not to worry, though, as

                                   new tires are readily available.

Now, on an unrelated note.  If any of you are thinking forward to Christmas and wondering what you might get us this year, we have a suggestion.

Okay, not this exact one.  It belongs to someone already.

But one like it would be just fine!          Ok.  I said I was sorry.

Anyway, Thursday we move on to Canyon Speedway for an IMCA race, with Friday practice and Sat./Sun. racing.  This will end the AZ swing.

Will let you know how that goes!    Thanks for reading.
