Anybody Still Out There??
Okay. So this is gonna be another Random post.
We all made it to 2021. That's a good thing.
2021. Didn't they used to write songs about years in the future which we all knew only our grandkids would live to see? What are we doin here?
Anyway, ever have someone tell you that they "didn't give a hill of beans . . ."?
Who has a hill of beans to give? And what kind of beans? Kidney? Lima?
Soybeans?
And how big is a soybean, anyway.
No, Really . . . How Big Is A SOYBEAN? Do you know? We didn't.
But we found one, and stole it. From a field in Iowa.
You didn't think I had a Dime, did you? Well there you go.
And a soybean. Take quite a few of those to make a hill. But soybeans are handy when you want to make vegetable oil, or animal feed or maybe even biodiesel. Or maybe you want to give someone a hill of these.
Which could look something like this. We came across this a day or two after the theft (in the field), found a spot to turn around, and went back to see what they had. Thought it was probably corn. No. That's a pile of soybeans, as high as the power poles and half a block long. We figure there's about a gazillion beans in there. And that's a lot. Seems they just pile them on the ground when grain elevator space is not available. And haul em somewhere later on. I guess.
That's all I've got on beans. You're welcome.
We used to go racing for fun. Remember in the later days we had a run of tearing up noses on the race car. We would re-build them regularly, after encounters with infield tires, other cars, or the occasional wall. Sometimes barely had enough parts to get it done.
Problem solved!
Wade's been busy up there in the South Dakota shop. Got plenty of back-up for the front of both cars. The best insurance policy against future up front damage, I think. Whatever it takes . . .!
We wandered over to Yuma yesterday to the Cocopah Speedway, got here a couple hours before Casey and Wade arrived in the rig, having driven overnight from Rapid City. Practice night only, racing begins tonight (Wednesday).
There are 18 nightly events of Modified racing between now and the end of the month at several tracks in Arizona. Which means that some overlap. We will likely race here through Friday night, then drive immediately to Queen Creek for the first night of their Wild West Shootout. The WWS then continues on Sunday, then Wednesday the 13th, then the 15th thru the 17th. The following weekend (22nd to 24th) there are modified races with the 410 Sprint Car show at the same San Tan Valley track. Thinking we might do that, but not yet sure. Then the Arizona Dirt Track Tour starts Friday the 29th. We will do that Tour for sure. That's where we met the team last year.
And so it continues! Please check in from time to time - love the comments (good or BAD!!). We will be posting when time and conditions allow.
Carry on. You know the drill. Wash and wear.
Doug and Lorna
Two happy wanderers having fun. I’m still jealous. Thanks for blogging again. Stay safe and healthy.
