A Good Night Finally
Cocopah Speedway. This place is ACTION all day long. The Marine Corp Air Station is just a couple miles away. Literally right now, as I just typed the last words, 4 F-35's flew over in a little formation. Right overhead and quite low. We're in their landing pattern. They fly at all times of the day and are a great diversion.
And while you sit in the stands, you watch Crop Dusters spraying the fields just across the track. They do this most frequently at night, with bright floodlights on the leading edge of the wing. Lots of aero maneuvers and very fun to watch. Wouldn't want to DO that, though!
Bearing in mind that there are cars from across the country at this race, and last night saw 66 entries in the A-Modified division alone; that the A-Main event starts only 26 cars, it isn't a cakewalk to get INTO the show on any given night.
Yesterday while Casey was in town and Wade was away, I took apart the front end so we could bore out the lower ball joint shaft seat, for which the taper didn't match the ball joint shaft we had replaced when Casey smacked the wall the previous day.
Didn't break or lose any parts!! Not entirely sure what I was doing, but it all went back together fine.
We drew a good starting "Pill" to the middle of the 2nd Heat race - starting 4th. Casey was really quick, got to 2nd in a hurry in spite of an early Yellow that set us back temporarily. Finished 2nd (only the top 2 transfer directly to the Main) so we are in the Main. Hallelujah!!
Started inside 4th row (7th spot), Casey passed two cars very early. We ran as good a 3rd for a few laps, then in 4th place for about a dozen. 2 laps to go we weakened a little and gave up 3 slots, finishing 7th. That's a good night in our book! Yay!
Also of interest: Zane Devilbiss of Farmington, NM finished 5th in the race, after starting in 10th. Kenny Wallace started in the 14th spot and finished in 10th. Against some really tough competitors. Good racing!
We race here again tonight, then immediately (around midnight) head toward Queen Creek east of Phoenix to make their Sunday show.
Gotta go. Will report again when we can.

Way to go team!
