RPM Speedway - Crandall Texas

Well, it's Friday morning at the track.  The place slowly comes to life, as crews are working on the track.  Most racers aren't early risers, as it turns out.

We've got just a little work to do on the car today, while we search for the right setup.  Last night there were no hot laps for some reason.  We were in the second heat, where the track was still muddy slick.  Good starting position - outside front row (thanks to a good pill draw by . . . . wait for it . . . LORNA!)

Finished 4th in that mudfest, which resembled figure skating somehow.  Put us  in the second B-Main where we started about 4th and went backwards from there.  Car just not handling the conditions at the time.

This mud is several inches thick on the underside of the car deck when Casey comes in, and everywhere else, and it takes weighted hammers, pry bars and scrapers of various sorts to get it off.  We all work at this.

As a sympathetic gesture, I think, they tagged us at the back of the A-Main even though there were about 20 cars that likewise didn't qualify to run and not included in the race.  Something about perfect attendance for the Series, maybe.

We finished 15th out of 26 starters as Casey drove his ass off in a somewhat uncooperative car.  OK outcome under the circumstances.  Will try again tonite.

Side note.      WE JUST LOVE THIS!!    This whole experience has been so much fun for both of us.  It is nearly unimaginable that we were given the opportunity to be involved in any way with this race team, and yet they have taken us in as if family.  Incredible.  Wade drove 60 miles out of his way in an 80 thousand pound racing rig just to treat us to lunch in Stillwater on Wednesday (a total surprise to us).  The whole group of racers is just good folks engaged in competitive racing.  They all have a lot of time, energy, money and other stuff invested in this.  For us to be involved in any way is mind-boggling.

We do everything in our power to repay the favor.

We'll get the car back in shape today and try again!
