Spring Valley, Minnesota

Yesterday (tuesday) we went to the Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley to participate in the annual IMCA "Harris Clash".  This is a big race at one of the most popular tracks in the midwest.

We dry camped at the track for a $20 fee, walking distance to the pits.
The track is a nice 3/8 mile hi-bank oval, with a good, well-prepped racing surface.  While there might typically be 40 to 50 entrants in the A-modified
class at any given track, there were 87 registered for this race.  And 25 available positions in the A Main.  You can do the math.
To make the show, you had to WIN your heat race (of which there were 12 instead of a more common 4 or 5.)  Failing that, you needed to finish in the top 2 in one of the six B-Mains.   65 entries in those six races.
Casey ran 5th in his Heat race, so proceeded to the B-Main-#2, where he started in the 8th position.  Ran a really good race, made it to 3rd at one point, and finished in the 4th slot.  Not quite enough to make the show, but a good performance.

So it's on down the road today, West on I-90 to the small town of Fairmont.
We'll race here tonight, with a much smaller field of cars.  Then we head out for the 81 Speedway in Park City, KS (think Wichita!), where we will race tomorrow night.  It's about a 9 hour drive, so will leave here tonight after the races and get as far as we can, then roll in tomorrow by about 4:00 in the afternoon.

Keep on Truckin' . . . . .
