Recess is Over

The Fort Wallace Museum is located on US-40
and is a must see if you find yourself anywhere
in that area. A pleasant and enthusiastic staff, not really into social distancing however! Note the "Faith over Fear" ball cap.
Very nice and interesting displays, including over 60 "pedal" organs of various designs, all in excellent shape. That's more organs than the number of residents of the town of Wallace!

As we finished at the gas station, they moved vehicles to block and close the highway, allowing for a long procession of riders and walkers to proceed from the fairgrounds across the highway toward the center of town. Being rather ignorant in such things, we thought that Tuesday was an odd day for a parade. Or was this an organized protest of the shut-down of an event of some kind? Speculation. Only to find out (with the help of staff at Wallace) that this was a "Cowboy Funeral". Sure enough! Interesting, and rather cool, we thought.
As for racing, Casey has done well at some local tracks during the USMTS break. Some wins and a number of good finishes. They ran Oskaloosa, IA Tuesday night as we were heading toward Nebraska,
This was a USMTS race, but fielded only 15 cars - less than half the normal number. (I'm guessing that some teams thought, as we did, that central Iowa on a Tuesday was an odd choice to re-start the Series. And worse for us because of the driving necessary to get there only to backtrack to NE.)
Anyway, Casey finished 3rd in his heat race and 9th in the main, which saw only 9 cars finish.
Last night at I-80 Speedway here in Greenwood, NE we started our heat on the pole and finished 2nd.
Started in the 9th position in the Main, made it up to 5th fairly quickly, but got shuffled back to 11th at the finish. This was an IMCA sanctioned race, so was sort of just-for-fun.
We're off tonight while they run Super Late Models at this track, then USMTS resumes for Friday and Saturday. Looking forward to getting back to business.
We'll keep you "in the Loop".
Ya know, l read somewhere that Wallace, KS had a lot of organ donors...😀
ReplyDeleteSounds like a cool, gar, and removed place! "Faith over Fear", a cowboy funeral, dare I mention the question of Darwinism?... Super intriguing experience during such a road trip! Racing onward I'm sure! Enjoy the many more surreal and defining sights that are sure to continue throughout the ever impressive midwest!💗💕
