R & R for the Boss, and a Little Cleanup

We drove yesterday from Sioux City IA to Sioux Falls, SD, ultimately landing at the Grand Falls Casino.  This portion of the trip has helped the author learn how to spell "Sioux".   On the way, we made the obligatory stop at Walmart, and while sitting in the parking lot ordered our Panda Express "take out" lunch.  Very handy to have the trailer with us, for dining purposes, when you can't "dine in". 

After lunch we met Wade at a car wash he found not far away which was big enough (barely) to accommodate the rig.  There we spent the afternoon cleaning the toys.  












One last stop.  Very glad that we pay for fuel only in the smaller truck.


Returned to the Casino in time to join the group for dinner at the "Crave" restaurant at the Hilton downtown - thanks Casey! - and a late night walking tour of the Falls for which the town is named.  Cool area.  Worth a visit if you are ever in the area.

Back to the Casino just before midnight, donated a little at the slot machines, then recovered at the craps table.  Spent the night in the parking lot.



After a couple of late nights, Lorna says she feels a little like this!  Oh well!


On to Mason City IA where we race tonight thru Thursday.

    Absolutely loved hearing about the breakdown of the day! Super cool to see how the cars/rigs were tended to with washing. It's neat to see behind the scenes! Glad to know you got some time in at the slots too! Nice, can totally see Mom as the frog!!! Loved it!!!

Just a recap for today,  as we are moving. LATE MODEL:  In Heat race we were running 2nd, spun and got hit,  took out front of car.  We thrashed it back together but were knocked out of B-main in 3 laps. MODIFIED:  Started 6th in Heat race, finished 3rd.  Great driving by Casey.  Started 13th out of 27 cars in the $10,000.00-to-Win A Main Feature.  Finished 16th.  Good performance for Casey considering the competition;  making Saturday the bright spot of our Cedar Lake experience.   Stuart Iowa next,  Tuesday,  as Park Jefferson has been canceled due to insurance issue over the use of a public road,  I think.

What to do Between Races?

  So in mid-February we bought a new camp trailer in Las Cruces, NM.  Made a deal on a Grand Design Reflection fifth-wheel, then overnight decided to get something smaller instead in view of the upcoming travel commitment.  Lorna had liked the 17-foot "Imagine" which is made by the same company.   To make this happen, of course, we had to transfer everything from the old Komfort to the new rig, then haul the Komfort to Durango.  Then back to Las Cruces to take delivery, 2 nights in Deming to check things out and get organized, then a long drive to Stillwater OK to get set for the Texas races. During the night on the way to Crandall, we realize that the refrigerator is not cooling as it should, and ultimately that it is not working either on gas or electric.  This after living in it for about 3 whole weeks.   Long story short - I managed to get it going again in the camping area at RPM Speedway by bypassing what I think is a thermal fuse of so...

The Good, The Bad, and . . . . well . . you know . . .

  The first weekend of April we are in Webster City, Iowa at the Hamilton County Speedway.  This is a 1/2 mile track with moderate banking and a pretty good racing surface. The track usually holds two decent grooves for the night, one down on the very bottom and the other right up at the wall.  Still some opportunity for passing. Most of the teams were able to park in the infield;  by the time we got there they were parking the bigger rigs outside the track at the edge of spectator parking. Not all bad, as we had a fairly level spot in a grassy location.  And the "people" entry was just yards from the rig, so it was easy to go back and forth from the stands.  This track is right in the center of Webster City, which is an older town maybe the size of Durango back in the 80's.  The town "claim to fame" might be that it was home to the "Doodle Bug" scooter factory back in 1946-1948.   Yes, there are still some of them around - they have a big c...
