Camping Style and Form
So, driving through Kansas realizing that it would be hot and humid at Greenwood, we called the
RV park which is a quarter mile from the track. We have air conditioning, but our generator is not big enough to run it, so thought the park would be nice. "Andrea" tells me that they are sold out, every year, in the first few days of January for this event - the Silver Dollar Nationals.
the next day while driving, a lucky cancellation.
Yay! All the comforts of home!
We are now inmates at the Pine Grove RV park.
Tightly controlled access designed to keep those
"racing people" out. Or at least screened.
Works for us!
Release in four days |
At the track you find a variety of contraptions people bring to provide their camp with power
They don't all meet code, necessarily!
Anyway, happy where we are.
As for racing, last night (Friday) Casey started 8th in the Heat race and finished 8th.
We started the B-Main 7th and finished 6th, which at many races would have left us out of the show.
But there were only 27 cars entered and just 26 available to start the Main, so we were IN.
Started in the 22nd slot and 35 laps later were up to 10th. Good result for where we began.
BTW - They also ran the Lucas Oil Late Models last night with a field of 45 entries, from Florida to Canada, and Pennsylvania to New Mexico. This is a premier event for that class, and a crowd favorite.
We can see why they like these guys - very competitive, lots of action. Fun racing!! They ran time trials last night, which with on-track Telemetry (timing devices in every car) and Race receivers for audio to the drivers, they can time cars in groups of 4 or 5 at once. Beats the old one-at-a-time
method with a stopwatch in the tower! And of course you get real-time scoreboard/position info
for all cars during the races. Quite handy.
They had Heat races last night for the Late Models, with points given for finishing position and additional "passing points" for the number of places you move up during the race. These are then
used to establish starting positions for their Main events today. The ultimate winner of the
Feature Event today wins $53,000.00.
Not too bad for a couple nights "work".
Hoping we can get the modified a little closer to the front tonight!! Will let you know.
Whew...Thank goodness you got a four day "release" to watch such an event! Definitely looks like the luck of the draw with neighbors! Here's to hoping for a good night's sleep after such an adrenaline rush!
