So, Lorna said we might want to try clogging. I ordered some tap shoes and the cutest little skirts.
Turns out she said "blogging". So here we go.
Format and style will have to wait. For now will be mostly just info about our travel, maybe make it easier to follow us. Test, 1 2 3; test. 😀
Background: This past January we took some time to attend car races in Arizona, mostly modified race cars, as that was available. While looking at haulers and cars in the pits one afternoon before a race, we met a very nice guy that was with one of the teams. He was kind enough to visit with us, lets us take pictures - even invited us in to the trailer and then the hauler ("toter"), all of which was eye-opening and almost stunning. My recollection is that the entire rig is about 84 feet in length and weighs in at 85,000 pounds. Trailer carries two cars above a fully equipped shop, with two slide-outs which hold around 40 mounted tires. We were, of course, impressed. They raced that night (it was Arizona San Tan Speedway near Queen Creek, AZ). We stopped by after the race to say "Hi", visited a little while they helped another racer who needed their liftgate to swap engines in his car. Doug picked up a flashlight that had fallen and held it while they hurried to complete the job, as they would travel that night on to Central AZ Speedway near Casa Grande for a race the following day. By the time the job was done, Doug had oil and grease to the elbows, had helped mount bolts to secure the new motor, and to move the old motor back to their trailer. They surely didn't require that assistance, but it may have sped up the process a little.
We also ran in to them at the next track, visited a little, but declined an invitation to come in to their coach for a beer. (duh! Oh well.) But we scrapped plans to go back to Canyon Speedway for a sprint car race, opting to follow this group to Tucson for their next race (Feb. 14&15). We baked a pan of brownies which we dropped off in the pits on our way to window-shop RVs. Also left a card with our info - in case they "needed anything". (Right.) Got a text a couple hours later: no words, just a pic of a nearly empty pan of brownies. We camped that night, as usual, at the back of the track with a group of folks who were also following the race tour. Daily campfires, coffee, etc. Nice folks.
The "team" car got banged up a little at that night's race. The next morning late we got a text from Wade -who is the crew chief/boss/wrench, "you bored?". And the rest, as they say, is history.
I guess that "clogging" thing wasn't gonna happen anyway.
Cheers!
Sorry to hear you missed out on the clogging, but the blogging is interesting....
