Cedar Lake Day 1
First night in the books. Late model (larger car)
(You draw a numbered "pill" to determine starting position)
Started 4th in Heat 4. Finished 7th.
Thus did not qualify to go directly to A-Main. Started 6th in the (qualifying) B-Main, in which we finished 5th. One position out of qualifying for the A-Main, so done for the night in that division, but had a little work to do on the car from on track action(!)
Modified: Assigned to Heat Race #6; started on the pole and finished one place back in 2nd. 2 best cars in each of the 6 Heats go automatically to the A-Main, so we're IN. Except for that thing called "passing points", which rewards drivers who have gained more positions during the course of their Heat race. That pushed us out. So we have to qualify thru the B-Main, in which we started 4th and finished 8th. So we are OUT. Will not be in the Main event.
Except for that thing called a "provisional". This can occasionally be used by a driver to enter a race for which they didn't otherwise qualify. If taken, driver can start at the back of the race, and is running for points only, no purse money or other benefits. So we (evidently) took an "emergency" provisional and started 27th in the Main. Finished 25th. It's hard to do much passing from that spot late in a race event, as the track is a little less conducive to passing. But it's action while you're trying!
Overall an OK night. Both cars need a little TLC today!!
But we ARE camping. And Lorna says THAT's all that matters. She might be right!
Good food. Good neighbors (fortunately - that can be a crap-shoot!). Good sleeping (banging race car bodies back into shape is conducive to good sleep). And if you're thirsty, they've got the cure.
So that's it for now!
**Disclaimer**: If this blog is a mess, it may be in part attributable to Very Slow Internet which results from our remote location as well as much competition from hundreds of other campers, race teams and rigs, track administration, etc.
Til next time!
